I am applying for the new position of Social Media Co-ordinator on the University Marketing and Communications team as per Vacancy # AP 19/2009 on Brock University’s online job board.  I possess more than two years of experience working in the social web, in both professional and personal contexts, making me an ideal candidate for the role. Please go to my résumé for the finer details of my work experience. And, while you’re here, please take the opportunity to peruse everything my blog has to offer.

Since the fall of 2007, I have developed creative and innovative social web marketing solutions for Brock University, initially as Communications Officer for the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) and more recently as a Relationship Manager for Co-op Programs.

As CCOVI Communications Officer, I released the University’s first ever SMPR (Social Media Press Release), announcing the opening of Brock’s Consumer Perception and Behaviour. The SMPR generated buzz on multiple blogs and was picked up by several news and wine industry publications in the weeks following its release; considering the release cost just $40 on PRWeb.com, it was a huge communications success.

Also at CCOVI, I more than tripled the readership of the CCOVI News e-newsletter by establishing an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed for it on the CCOVI website. And I doubled the live audience size for the 2008 CCOVI Lecture Series by enabling an online viewer base through the streaming video service Ustream.tv.

While at CCOVI, I also established the CCOVI Facebook group, which has grown to have more than 150 members, and used it to reconnect Brock Oenology and Viticulture graduates.

I have also had a major part in the development of the Co-op Programs Facebook page, including integration of updates from the Co-op Programs Twitter feed, which I established.  And, to accelerate my relationship building efforts for Co-op Programs, I’ve tapped into the social web, encouraging colleagues and co-op employers to connect with me on the social site for professionals LinkedIn.com

In the past year, I have been active in Brock’s rebranding efforts, participating in focus groups and panel discussions and attending Extended Communications Group meetings.  I am impressed by the bold new direction in which Brock is headed with its branding. And I am confident that I will embody the brand in working with Brock’s Marketing and Communications team to seize the potential of the social web.

At your earliest convenience, I would greatly appreciate an opportunity to interview for the position of Social Media Co-ordinator.   I am truly excited to move forward on this opportunity. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

James Cooper
